Oppo Going to Launch Smart Watches & 5G Phones

Guangdong smartphone maker launched its long-awaited 5G Find X2 flagship smartphone last Friday.

OPPO, a smartphone manufacturer from Guangdong Province, recently launched its first smartwatch product in an attempt to diversify its smartphone-only strategy.

On March 6, the company, which for a long time was a “pure” manufacturer of smartphones, introduced its first smart watch called OPPO Watch. He showed a clear intention to diversify his non-telephone business lines, as in early March he also launched the Kash financial services application in India.

This product, like other 5G products, was presented at an online press conference that was originally planned during the Mobile World Conference (MWC) in Barcelona last month, but was canceled due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic.

“There shouldn’t be any net smartphone makers in the 5G era,” said Asia Times Allen Wu, OPPO vice president and global sales company president. “Cell phone manufacturers must diversify their business.”

In terms of hardware, smart wearable devices will become the future trend, while smartphones will remain the main product, Liu said. All of these products will support many cloud services, including financial and Internet services, he added.

At the same time, OPPO also launched its long-awaited Find X2 flagship 5G smartphone.

Since the start of the Covid-19 epidemic, OPPO canceled almost all of its offline marketing activities earlier this year, but paid more attention to online sales using WeChat, or the so-called “circle of friends”, or other non-contact sales channels.

The company originally planned to sell its new phone, the Reno3 Yuanqi version rafiqsonsonline.com/product-category/citizen/, in stores, but because of an epidemic, it changed its sale on the Internet.

“We will further optimize our sales structure and focus on online sales,” Wu said. “Although online sales have also been affected by the epidemic, this segment has recovered more rapidly than offline sales.”

According to Wu, sales of the company's stand-alone smartphones fell significantly in February. Total smartphone sales in the industry last month could be halved, he added.

Strategy Analytics, a provider of mobile phone market data, recently lowered its forecast for global and Chinese smartphone shipments in 2020 by 10% and 15%, respectively, due to the outbreak of Covid-19.

OPPO has witnessed a complete halt to the supply of its parts from India since the country closed its customs at the beginning of the outbreak. Fortunately, parts deliveries from Japan and South Korea, where more and more infections were also observed, suffered less, as the production lines of the two countries were highly automated, Liu said.

However, if the epidemic in Japan, South Korea and Europe worsens and leads to large-scale city closures, Chinese manufacturers will face even greater problems, he said. It is a big problem for manufacturers of electrical devices rafiqsonsonline.com/product-category/casio/ to change their suppliers in an epidemic, he added.

Liu said OPPO will be able to maintain its global production, as it has factories in China, India, Indonesia and Algeria to diversify its production.
